The Visual Resources Collection

The Visual Resources Collection of the Department of Art and Art History at Pomona College is open to the faculty, staff and students of the Claremont Colleges for classroom lectures and presentations.

Slides

The Collection contains c. 125,000 35mm slides covering the history of art and architecture from the Palaeolithic Era to the twenty-first century.  The collection is strong in its coverage of the Western artistic tradition.  Among the areas covered are:

• Medieval Art and Architecture
• Manuscript Illumination
• Renaissance Art and Architecture
• Baroque Art and Architecture
• Colonial Art and Architecture
• Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century Art and Architecture
• Contemporary Art
• Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century Photography

The Collection also includes basic coverage of Precolumbian and Native American art.

Videos

The Collection contains c. 250 videos on visual culture.

Reference Library

In addition to slides and videos, the Collection houses a basic reference library for the study of art and architecture.  The Department maintains subscriptions to major English-language art periodicals.
